This grant was held by Monash University.


A Pragmatic Trial of Stepped Care Intervention for People with Depression and Cardiac Failure: beyond blue-funded study that examined the effectiveness of a stepped care model of treatment for the co-morbidities of depression and cardiovascular disease, and the enablers and barriers to successful treatment.

Corangamite Risk Factor Survey (Risk Factors for Cardiovascular Disease - A Rural Perspective): Royal Australian College of General Practitioners- and Sanofi-Aventis Pty Ltd-funded survey of the prevalence of recognised risk factors for cardiovascular disease in the population of the Corangamite Shire, south west Victoria.

Wimmera Risk Factor Survey (Greater Green Triangle Cardiovascular Risk Factor Study Wimmera Sub Study): Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing (UDRH program)- and Servier Laboratories Pty Ltd-funded survey of the prevalence of recognised risk factors for cardiovascular disease in the population of the Wimmera region, north west Victoria


DIABETES PREVENTION

Depression_Treatment Evaluation Care Team (D_TECT) (Chronic Disease Management of Co-morbid Depression, Heart Disease and Diabetes - Stage 1): beyondblue-funded research into the clinical pathways for patients with co-morbid depression and diabetes.

Diabetes Prevention Project Initiative: Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing-funded national demonstrator project, which used lifestyle interventions to prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes among high risk individuals.

Diabetes Prevention Project - Telephone Support Follow Up Study: Ubergang Foundation- and the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing (UDRH program)-funded follow up study to the Diabetes Prevention Project Initiative, which used a facilitated telephone support program to assist long-term maintenance of lifestyle changes made by people at high risk of type 2 diabetes.

Hospital Admission Reduction Program (HARP) (Evidence-Based Best Practice Model Clinical Pathways for People with Diabetes): Victorian Department of Human Services'-funded study, which quantified hospital and other medical service utilisation and examined solutions to reduce admission rates for complications of diabetes.

PEACH: Patient Engagement and Coaching for Health: An Intensive Treatment Intervention for Patients with Type 2 Diabetes in Disadvantaged Communities: NHMRC-funded program using practice nurses to assist patients with type 2 diabetes to self-manage. This grant was held by the University of Melbourne.

Type 2 Diabetes and Depression: Assessing the Prevalence in Victoria and Identifying Effective Public Health Interventions: Victorian Department of Human Services'-funded project that examined both the extent of co-morbid depression among people with type 2 diabetes and the most effective public health interventions for early detection and treatment of such co-morbid depression.

 

MENTAL HEALTH

The Mental Health Tertiary Curriculum Project: Department of Health & Ageing funded through an agreement with the Australian Rural Health Education Network (ARHEN) to determine the distribution of current mental health clinical placements and to determine the determinants, values, barriers and enablers that are specific to mental health placements.

TrueBlue  (Chronic Disease Management of Co-morbid Depression, Heart Disease and Diabetes (National Project, Stage 2): beyondblue-funded evaluation of systematic care for patients with co-morbid depression and coronary heart disease and/or type 2 diabetes.

NUTRITION

Food and Move: Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing (UDRH program)-funded project that promoted healthy eating and physical activity in four Warrnambool (Victoria) secondary schools and built capacity for ongoing health promotion to address overweight/obesity.

Primary Health Care Research Evaluation and Development (PHCRED) program: Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing-funded program aimed at building research capacity amongst primary health care workers.

Primary Health Care Research Evaluation and Development (PHCRED) Bursaries: Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing (PHCRED Strategy)-funded research projects and evaluations based on primary health care priorities for the Greater Green Triangle region and aimed at building research capacity amongst primary health care workers.

WORKFORCE

Access to Allied Health Services Pilot: Geelong Division of General Practice-funded pilot evaluation of a new primary care referral model designed to increase access to allied mental health professionals. 

Allied Health Recruitment and Retention: Victorian Department of Human Services'-funded project that provided data on qualitative and quantitative data on recruitment and retention of allied health staff in south west Vcitoria, and developed strategies for recruitment and retention of allied health staff.

Allied Health Workforce Enhancement - Physiotherapy Locum Pilot: Victorian Department of Human Services'-funded pilot that addressed issues of workforce recruitment and retention issues of allied health staff in the Barwon South West and Wimmera regions through a series of innovative means, including the provision of a part-time locum physiotherapy service.

Chronic Disease Management Models as Examples of Organisational Developmental Approaches in Primary Care: APHCRI Linkage & Exchange Travelling Scholarship that examined the role of organisational development in optimising the primary health care workforce.

Contribution of Organisational Change to Optimising the Workforce in Primary Care: Australian Primary Health Care Research Institute (APHCRI) Stream 6-funded project that systematically reviewed evidence that organisational development contributes towards achieving organisational priorities and performance in primary care.

Evaluation of the Cardiac Services in South East South Australia: South Australian Regional Health Services-funded evaluation of the cardiac services available and associated service gaps in south east South Australia.

General Practice Hospital Integration Pilot: Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing-funded research which assisted identification of successful and sustainable strategies in the delivery of integrated care to people living in rural and remote areas.

Obstetric Survey - Rural and Urban Victoria: Victorian Department of Human Services'-funded survey of the obstetric workforce in rural and urban Victoria.

Organisational Developmental Approaches in Primary Care: Australian Primary Health Care Research Institute (APHCRI) Stream 10-funded project that enabled Professor James Dunbar and Professor Prasuna Reddy to travel to the United States on a Linkage & Exchange Travelling Scholarship to help increase understanding of organisational development, its practice, and its effectiveness in optimising the primary health care workforce.

Organisational Development Approaches in Primary Care  and Change Management: Australian Primary Health Care Research Institute (APHCRI) Stream 16-funded project investigating ways that change management and the associated implementation would benefit from organisational development.

Primary Health Professional Education: Current Models and Barriers to Participation: Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing-funded study which identified important considerations for continuing education for community pharmacy.

Region of Choice: Barwon South West: Victorian Department of Human Services'-funded study that developed allied health recruitment and retention strategies for the Barwon South West region, and evaluated the effectiveness of any recruitment or retention initiatives implemented within the region.

South West Victorian Allied Health Survey: Victorian Department of Human Services'-funded survey of allied health professionals working in the Barwon South West region of Victoria.

Student Tracking: Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing (UDRH program)-funded project that examined whether undertaking a rural or regional clinical placement influences a student's decision to subsequently take up work in a rural or regional area.
